The Labour Department (LD) will today (May 9) launch "Career Get-Set-Go", a special tailor-made service package to cater for the pre-employment training and employment needs of secondary school graduates, especially those who choose to enter the employment market upon graduation. The special package, which will continue until August, will assist them in grasping the latest employment information, devising a career plan and enhancing their employability. A spokesperson for the department said today that "Career Get-Set-Go" is anticipated to benefit some 26 000 participants through a series of diversified pre-employment training and employment services. "LD has solicited a large number of job vacancies suitable for graduates. Graduates can browse the vacancies in the dedicated webpage of 'Career Get-Set-Go' and apply for the jobs according to one's interests and needs. "We will provide details of the different types of job fairs organised by LD in the dedicated webpage, including: * Job fairs for young people under the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme and Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YPTP&YWETS). Some of the posts offered are complemented with pre-employment training after which trainees will undergo six to 12 months salaried on-the-job training. * Recruitment days in LD's Job Centres in different districts or at two industry-based recruitment centres, with employers of different industries offering on-the-spot job interviews, thus saving the graduates' time in searching for jobs. * Large scale job fairs providing a wide variety of vacancies open to job seekers, many of which are suitable for graduates. "Moreover, the Youth Employment Start (YES) will launch various career advisory and employment support programmes, including career assessment and career consultation at YES, a comprehensive job search package containing workshops and talks on job hunting skills, interactive dramas on appropriate interview skills and etiquette and celebrity experience-sharing sessions." The spokesperson added, "Graduates who would like to enter the employment market are encouraged to enroll on LD's YPTP&YWETS, which provides one-stop comprehensive pre-employment and on-the-job training without any pre-set quota." In addition, the LD will organise the "Award Ceremony for the Most Improved Trainees of YPTP&YWETS 2013 cum Concert" in collaboration with Radio 2 of Radio Television Hong Kong, to showcase the improvements of trainees after joining YPTP&YWETS, launch a new YPTP&YWETS programme year, and encourage graduates to realise their dreams.
